Victorian Contract 4

I think "Dover Beach" is mainly a love and meditative poem because he is relating the beach to his own life. The way he is talking about the beach he is talking about how the waves can wash away the sand. Just like how things in life can be washed away with other moments in life. Just how a single wave from the ocean can completely erase old worn out sand that was left from that day.

The ocean is full of undiscovered things that nobody knows about. Arnold is pretty much relating it to his own life because life is full of possibilities. The waves of the ocean bring about new things on the beach and it washes away the old. Such as a woman Arnold misses. I picture Arnold sitting at the beach at night quietly listening to the ocean and relating it to problems in his own life. It makes him realizes things do not last forever and there is always more out there to see.

He is using the beach to relate to how he misses a woman but also how he is thinking about his life. The beach and ocean are always changing and so is Arnold's life. I think the most important line of this poem is "The sea of faith" because the sea is full of life and possible things that are just waiting to be discovered.
