The War of the Worlds

Ogilvy is a man researching mars and how it is cooling off. A meteorite soon hits a small town and is discovered by Ogilvy. Many people seen the meteorite streaking across the sky. Ogilvy examines the meteorite but it turns out not to be a meteorite at all. He suspects something is living inside. Ogilvy contacts Henderson, a local man involved with the newspaper, to come examine the cylinder.

A couple of days later there are tons of people waiting around the mysterious object wondering what it could be. Soon after the excavation a 2 creatures come out of the cylinder and everyone runs. The Martians are soon destroying the town and the towns people whiteout and sign of remorse. The narrator is concerned about the life of the townspeople and how most are unaware. The martians are just destroying out of fear.

The Martians are beginning to work on their machines. Smoke flows up from the pit so humans cannot see what is going on. A second cylinder hits and the military cannot take down the Martians. The narrator discovers the tri-pod like machine. He does not know what it's use is. The machines begin to attack humans using heat rays and other tactics. There is almost no way of escaping the Martians. The martian's cylinders land every 24 hours and are nearly unstoppable. They develop new weapons and tactics to use against humans such as the black smoke.

The town is suffering and fleeing fr the Martians. Many die from the weapons of the Martians and the rest die of fear and running from the martians. Vessels begin transporting people away from the Martians. Thunder child is a warship designed to brig down the Martians. The heat ray is the only thing that brings down the Thunder Child. But before the ship is destroyed it takes it two cylinders. A cylinder lands right beside the narrators house. The Martians make the curate insane and he dies. The narrator is trapped inthe house by a Martian standing gaurd.

The narrator keeps on learning discouraging news about his home town. The Martians keep on landing faster than anyone could imagine destroying them. They develop new machines and weapons and eventually develop a machine designed for flight. This bring a whole new fear to the narrator. The Martians start dying because they are not immune to an earthy deisease that the humans are immune to. Soon tons of Martians an their machines begin to die off. Soon all of the Martians dies from the disease and mankind is restored. The Martians did leave behind new technology that the humans can use.

Victorian Contract 4

I think "Dover Beach" is mainly a love and meditative poem because he is relating the beach to his own life. The way he is talking about the beach he is talking about how the waves can wash away the sand. Just like how things in life can be washed away with other moments in life. Just how a single wave from the ocean can completely erase old worn out sand that was left from that day.

The ocean is full of undiscovered things that nobody knows about. Arnold is pretty much relating it to his own life because life is full of possibilities. The waves of the ocean bring about new things on the beach and it washes away the old. Such as a woman Arnold misses. I picture Arnold sitting at the beach at night quietly listening to the ocean and relating it to problems in his own life. It makes him realizes things do not last forever and there is always more out there to see.

He is using the beach to relate to how he misses a woman but also how he is thinking about his life. The beach and ocean are always changing and so is Arnold's life. I think the most important line of this poem is "The sea of faith" because the sea is full of life and possible things that are just waiting to be discovered.

Victorian Contract 3

1. This thunderstorm has made me very sad and got me thinking about things in life and how they don't always last very long. The thunderstorm scares me and makes me realize things.

2. The thunderstorm continues on and we are still trapped in the house as the rain continues on and on. It is raining so hard you can't even see down the road. Everyone is still frightened about how bad the storm has gotten.

3. The storm continues to shake the house and rattle everything around me. This man keeps on trying to comfort me but I just don't want him around me.

4. Today the rained has stopped and we went outside to check the damage. Things are thrown everywhere and the house is a mess. Streets have been flooded.

5. This mysterious man continues to linger around me as if I know him well. So far the best time this week was being able to come outside and get away from him.

6. The man is very sad that he does not get to see me anymore. The rain is starting to slowly pick back up. I hope I don't have to go be with him again.

7. The rain has been going on for a week now and it is slowly lowering everyones moral. Especially the man that likes me. At the end of the day the rain had stopped for good and I am never going to have to see that man again.

Victorian Contract 2

Tennyson is talking about how everything Ulysses has done in life is now a part of him. All of his adventures and everything that has happened to him will always be with him no matter what. People may or may not remember him for what he has done but even if he forgets it will always be with him. He will be remembered for the things he has done in the past and for what he is going to do. Ulysses went on many adventures because he thought life was boring if he just stood still and didnt do anything fun. The adventures he took will always be with him because thats what he enjoyed doing, instead of just sitting around being bored. I took the poem as telling people to not care about what others think, just live life the way you want to live it.

I can relate this to my own life because people will remember me from the things that I have done. And no matter how bad or how good those things were thats how people will remember me. Those things will always be with me. Even if I forget the things I have done, other people may not. The things that I have done may be how somebody first heard of me, and that will be with them forever. I may not even know the person and thats what they will think of when they hear my name. The things that I do in the past is what makes up my life. Even what I do in the future thats what makes life, life. Life should be full of having fun and enjoying life, not just sitting around boring yourself and feeling sorry for yourself. It doesnt matter what other people think, because the things I do in my life will always be with me and thats what makes life fun.

Victorian Contract 1

"The Raven" is a poem about a man sitting in his chamber thinking to himself queitly. Soon he starts to hear a tapping at his door. He is startled because he has no visitors and it is a lonely day. Soon he goes to the door to check on the knocking and it is a raven bird. The bird starts talking to him as if he was human and the man is startled. he thinks the raven is the bird of the devil because it just leads the man to believe false things. "The Blessed  Damozel" is about a near perfect woman who seems like she can do no wrong. She is beautiful in every way and has no imperfections. These two poems are completely different. I picture "The Raven" being in a dark and rainey apmosphere. The man and the woman from "The Blessed Damozel" are two completely different people because she is a woman that is not gloomy or sad. She has nothing to be said about. I believe the raven is just a thing of the mans imagination telling him how he really feels, his soul. The woman has everything going for her while the man has nothing going for him. The themes are different because one is about a bird leading a man into thinking wrongly. The woman is lead into doing more perfect things. She learns that beauty is not everything. Both character learn something from a different person or thing.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

  1. The title of the book is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The book starts out with a wild man named Mr. Hyde. He goes around town killing people in London. A man named Mr. Utterson soon finds out that his friend, Dr. Jekyll, seems to be related to the Mr. Hyde. Hyde keeps killing and eventually his caught by Utterson, but Jekyll convinces Utterson to not worry about it. Eventually Dr. lanyon is killed, but he gives Utterson a letter explaining how Jekyll and Hyde are related.
  1. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the major characters of the book. Though they seem like two totally different people, they are the same. Jekyll takes a chemical that transforms him into the monstrous Mr. Hyde. Soon Jekyll runs out of the chemical and will eventually turn permanently into Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson is a lawyer that is exploring the case of Mr. Hyde and is lead through shocking discoveries of how Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll are related.
  1. The setting takes place in an old time London where science is becoming a popular study. The setting of the book could change without changing the story, but it wouldn't give it the same feel that it has being placed in London. There is no real significance to the setting, because it could be placed in any country or city.
  1. The main conflict is between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde himself. Dr. Jekyll creates a chemical that allows him to be a man with no conscious. Jekyll likes being this man that doesn't have to worry about anything. Though soon people start catching on about the relation between Hyde and Jekyll because of the similar handwriting. Jekyll start not being able to control when he transforms into Hyde. Jekyll commits suicide before Hyde takes over completely.
  1. The author is trying to prove that you cannot escape emotions or anger. Jekyll tried being someone completely different than who he actually was. The power of Hyde was taking over Dr. Jekyll and he realized this. Dr. Jekyll ruined his reputation when the town started putting the clues together, finally discovering the relation between Jekyll and Hyde.
  1. One of the biggest symbols is of Hyde's anger and appearance. Dr. Jekyll was a clean cut man who was nice and friendly to everyone. Mr. Hyde was Jekyll's anger and hatred built up. Mr. Hyde's appearance resembled how he looked on the inside, hideous.
  1. I think other people should read this book because it shows how you cant escape the person who you really are. This book had suspense and kept the reader guessing. It had twists and turns in the book that would throw you off. The story itself was very interesting, and the characters were great. I thought it was awesome how Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same people but existed outside of each other.
