Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

  1. The title of the book is Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The book starts out with a wild man named Mr. Hyde. He goes around town killing people in London. A man named Mr. Utterson soon finds out that his friend, Dr. Jekyll, seems to be related to the Mr. Hyde. Hyde keeps killing and eventually his caught by Utterson, but Jekyll convinces Utterson to not worry about it. Eventually Dr. lanyon is killed, but he gives Utterson a letter explaining how Jekyll and Hyde are related.
  1. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are the major characters of the book. Though they seem like two totally different people, they are the same. Jekyll takes a chemical that transforms him into the monstrous Mr. Hyde. Soon Jekyll runs out of the chemical and will eventually turn permanently into Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson is a lawyer that is exploring the case of Mr. Hyde and is lead through shocking discoveries of how Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll are related.
  1. The setting takes place in an old time London where science is becoming a popular study. The setting of the book could change without changing the story, but it wouldn't give it the same feel that it has being placed in London. There is no real significance to the setting, because it could be placed in any country or city.
  1. The main conflict is between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde himself. Dr. Jekyll creates a chemical that allows him to be a man with no conscious. Jekyll likes being this man that doesn't have to worry about anything. Though soon people start catching on about the relation between Hyde and Jekyll because of the similar handwriting. Jekyll start not being able to control when he transforms into Hyde. Jekyll commits suicide before Hyde takes over completely.
  1. The author is trying to prove that you cannot escape emotions or anger. Jekyll tried being someone completely different than who he actually was. The power of Hyde was taking over Dr. Jekyll and he realized this. Dr. Jekyll ruined his reputation when the town started putting the clues together, finally discovering the relation between Jekyll and Hyde.
  1. One of the biggest symbols is of Hyde's anger and appearance. Dr. Jekyll was a clean cut man who was nice and friendly to everyone. Mr. Hyde was Jekyll's anger and hatred built up. Mr. Hyde's appearance resembled how he looked on the inside, hideous.
  1. I think other people should read this book because it shows how you cant escape the person who you really are. This book had suspense and kept the reader guessing. It had twists and turns in the book that would throw you off. The story itself was very interesting, and the characters were great. I thought it was awesome how Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same people but existed outside of each other.

Frankenstein

  1. The title of the book is Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. The book starts out by Victor Frankenstein being discovered in the arctic. When victor gets back he creates a monster out of old body parts. This monster awakens and scares victor. Victor soon finds out his brother is dead, only to find out the monster is the murderer. Victor creates a female monster but destroys it because of fear. The monster eventually murders all of victors loved ones, only to kill victor in the end.

  2. Victor Frankenstein is one of two major characters in the book. He is a Swiss man who has a passion for science. He creates the monster that eventually kills 3 of the closest people to him. Victor later regrets creating the monster. The monster is the other main character. The monster is made up of old body parts, and soon the monster discovers how hideous he is. The monster kills victor's friends and family gaining revenge on victor.

  3. The setting is in Victor Frankenstein's lab in Switzerland. I believe the setting could be different and remained unchanged. The setting did not play an important role in how the story went and how it turned out. There was no real significance besides being in Victor's lab.

  4. The main conflict is between Victor Frankenstein and the monster he created out of old body parts. Victor was obsessed with science and life. He created the monster trying to show off. The monster was socially nonexistent and soon the monster realized how ugly and hideous he looked. The monster seeked revenge on Victor by killing the people closest to him.

  5. One of the main themes of the book is arrogance. Victor was arrogant with his knowledge, trying to create something to show off how knowledgeable he was. Victor soon learned the with knowledge does not come power. Victor learned the hard way and soon regretted ever creating the monster he had thought he perfectly designed.

  6. I think the book proves clearly the symbolism in the book. The monster, for example, was created to be perfect and a break through in science. But instead the monster turned out to be hideous and do more damage than it did good. Its ironic that Victor thought he was the best scientist and that he knew everything. Creating the monster changed his life in a way that hurt victor more than anything.

  7. I think other people should read this book because it has interesting turns and twists that throw you for a loop. The author creates unexpected things that turn out to be the opposite of what was expected. Its a good book all the way through, keeping the reader interested the whole way. If anything else other readers should read it just because its a classic.
